NetSuite recently released ShipCentral, an application formerly known as PackStation which is built on the SCM Mobile framework. ShipCentral facilitates order fulfillment operations and comes included with the NetSuite WMS license. While the ShipCentral release back in Release 2023.1 presented exciting news for businesses in need of a robust shipping platform, it nevertheless missed some important functions used by many B2B or B2C companies. The upcoming 2023.2 ShipCentral release looks to address many of the requests and concerns and looks to be a very exciting release. Of course, as with all Release Previews, NetSuite is offering you an opportunity to request a Release Preview account which will allow you to test the new changes before your account is officially upgraded. I certainly encourage you to request the free Release Preview account and take advantage of the opportunity. Without further delay, let’s take a look at a small sampling of the upcoming changes.
International Shipping
If you ship internationally, you’ll be pleased to know ShipCentral is adding support for it. At a high-level, you will be able to generate international shipping labels and documents such as the certificate of origin.
Third Party Billing
Third Party Billing is now supported for carriers that offer these options such as FedEx and UPS. With the upcoming release you will be able to provide your third-party account information and allow you to charge those accounts when you ship packages using ShipCentral. For B2C companies, this is an exciting and highly requested feature I encourage you to thoroughly test.
Weight Calculation
Previously, you were able to connect a weight scale through PrintNode to capture carton weights for packages. While you can still certainly do this, ShipCentral has enhanced its solution to allow you to calculate weights using item record information. For example, NetSuite ShipCentral will now be able to calculate carton weights without a weight scale by deriving the weight from the item weight field. In addition, you can include tare weights in the calculation. If you use weight scales, ShipCentral will use that value instead and will display the discrepancy for your review.
