The latest NetSuite release (2025.1) has been out for a while. Your NetSuite account has likely been upgraded to the new release, which has introduced a number of new features and enhancements designed to improve productivity. In particular, NetSuite Ship Central (NetSuite WMS’ packing and shipping module) has also received a number of features worth reviewing of which I would like to cover in this blog.
Ship Central Enhancements
With Release 2025.1, NetSuite has introduced a number of enhancements to Ship Central. I highly recommend you review the entire 2025.1 Release Notes as they contain very exciting overviews of what’s new. Of note are the following enhancements:
- New Carrier Settings
- Carrier Accounts Per Location
- Default Package Code per Carrier
- Shipment References per Carrier
- Applying Discount, Markup, and Flat Rates
- Shop for Rates on the Order Transaction
- Paid Address Validation
New Carrier Settings
With the new release, you are now able to configure shipment references by carrier. Although it is good to have, the feature does not yet allow you to define shipment references by customer; a much requested feature for the clients I have had the pleasure of working with. However, the addition of this feature brings me hope that NetSuite is listening to customers and adding much needed functionality.
Applying Discount, Markup, and Flat Rates
Ship Central now supports shipping markup, discounts, and flat rate applications to shipping methods configured for Ship Central use, and these settings can be applied to Customers as well. A useful feature, as it allows business to effectively manage the costs incurred by shipping orders.
Shop for Rates on the Order Transaction
An improvement has been added to allow you to shop for rates directly on the sales order transaction instead of during shipping. This can be valuable for sales or customer service representatives who have to provide rates to customers, as this allows them to provide customers with the best rate based on their shipping information. As with the paid address validation covered below, you will see these new features as buttons on the sales order form.

Paid Address Validation
NetSuite Ship Central now offers paid address validation on sales orders, thereby allowing you to validate addresses upstream during order entry. This change is a welcome one as invalid addresses can present significant bottlenecks to warehouse fulfillment personnel, who have to stop order processing to validate ship to addresses. Worth noting is that this service is a paid service, and using the feature will incur additional costs as it is used, so be sure to refer to ShipEngine’s pricing to avoid any surprises.
