SOAP Web Services stands for Simple Object Access Protocol, which is a messaging protocol that allows applications to exchange structured information over the web. This is sometimes used for integrations in NetSuite to other Platforms such as VersaPay, Tipalti, and many more. The integration allows information to come in, out, or both depending on your system configurations.
The importance of SOAP is that it allows customers to see the logs for when the integration is occuring. It could help identify errors and potential issues. The one standout is that this type of information will be seen as lines of codes. Which could be tricky for some to understand. Nevertheless, this allows you to see the problem and escalate to support on those platforms with the exact issue.
This permission can be added to certain roles under Setup > User/Roles > Manage Roles > Edit a custom role > Setup subtab > SOAP Permissions. Users will see that one important permission is not there which is the SOAP Web Services Usage Log. This permission is only available to the Administrator Role. The screenshot below reflects what can be found. Access is provided to administrators only because access to this log could allow users to see data they do not have permission to view. As you can see, this Tipalti integration is interacting with many different records and that is why it is limited to the admin role.
