UPS has a new regulatory requirement for shipping to Germany. Starting January 1, 2025, shipments weighing 10 kilograms or more will require clear weight labeling to meet compliance laws.
Accurate weight data will be essential to ensure proper labeling and the required weight icons noted above can either be printed directly on your shipping labels or applied as stickers to the package. Non-compliance may result in customs holds or fines.
UPS systems—like UPS.com, UPS CampusShip®, and Ship API—will automatically generate labels meeting the new requirements starting December 26, 2024.
For UPS WorldShip® software users, a system upgrade will be available in early 2025 (v. 28.0.3 and above will be compliant).
If you are using Host, EDI, or a 3rd Party Vendor Shipping app, make sure your system is updated to comply with the new German labeling requirements.
For customers unable to update labels programmatically, weight class stickers (10+ and 20+ KG) will need to be applied to shipments to Germany. These supplies will be available on UPS webpage, Packaging and Shipping Supplies | UPS - United States, in January 2025.
