In a previous blog, we introduced you to Netsuite’s price level concept, which helps us assign different pricing for items. We can then take these price levels and assign them to customers allowing customers to receive different pricing for a given item. In this blog, we will continue to explore Netsuite’s pricing concepts and processes by reviewing pricing groups.

Pricing groups help extend Netsuite’s pricing concepts by allowing you to apply pricing for groups of items quickly and readily. Following that, we can assign these pricing groups to customers and allow those customers to receive different pricing for the group of items. Let us jump right into it.

The Process

Pricing groups are set up as follows:

      1. We enable the feature, if not already enabled.
      2. We create our pricing groups.
      3. We update our items and assign the pricing group.
      4. We update our customers and assign the pricing group.

Enabling Features

Similar to price levels, we will need to enable the multiple prices feature.

      1. Navigate to Setup > Company > Setup Tasks > Enable Features
      2. In the Transactions subtab, check the Multiple Prices box.
      3. Click Save

Creating Pricing Groups

Now that we have enabled the feature, setting up pricing group is quick and easy.

      1. Navigate to Setup > Accounting > Setup Tasks > Accounting Lists > New.
      2. Select Pricing Group.
      3. Enter a name under the Pricing Group field. A descriptive name here is recommended.
      4. Click Save

Assigning Pricing Groups – Items

Next, we will assign the pricing groups to our items. I will demonstrate the process through the user interface, but this can be managed in bulk through CSV import.

      1. Navigate to Lists > Accounting > Items.
      2. Open an existing item by clicking Edit
      3. Under the Sales / Pricing tab, scroll down and look for the Pricing Group field.
      4. From the drop down, select the pricing group you would like to associate with this item.
      5. Click Save

Assigning Pricing Groups - Customers

Finally, the pricing group is associated with the customer.

      1. Navigate to Lists > Relationships > Customers.
      2. Open an existing customer by clicking Edit
      3. Under the Financial tab, look for the Group Pricing subtab.
      4. Select the Pricing Group, and the overriding Price Level for the group of items assigned to the pricing group.
      5. As you enter sales orders for this customer, any items belonging to the pricing group will use the price level selected here. This setting will supersede the price level set on the main customer record.
      6. Click Save

As we finalize our setup, I recommend creating several sales orders to verify the correct pricing is applied according to our pricing groups and items contained in those groups. Keep in mind, pricing groups will supersede the customer price level. However, they will not supersede any customer specific item pricing we have applied. That will take precedence over our pricing groups. We hope you found this blog insightful. Please look forward to the next blog where we will discuss quantity based pricing.
