We understand that some companies have a segmentation setup that requires dependencies. For example, you might want to select a department on a transaction, and based on the department chosen, a specific group of classes from a list to follow.
Natively, making native dependencies between segmentations/classifications (Department, Class, Location) is not directly supported. However, to achieve this scenario, you may create Custom Segment(s) and make them dependent by following the steps below:
- Navigate to Customization 🡪 Lists, Records, & Fields 🡪 Custom Segment
- Create new Custom Segment
- You may choose to filter your original segment by something like your Subsidiary, in which you can do so by choosing subsidiary in the “Filtered by” field on the right of the form which you can also see below:
- Once your original custom segment is created (in this example, we’ll call it a custom department), you may create your custom class segment
- When creating your new custom class segment, choose the custom department segment you first created on “Filtered by” field referenced above
- On the bottom of the form where you are creating the list of your Classes, you can then select “Set Filters” on the Class created on the list. See below for screenshot:
- After clicking on the "Set Filters" button shown above, select the test departments which the listed classes are dependent on
- Click save
- To test this, you must navigate to a transaction and show the newly created Custom Segments on the transaction form.
- Once this is done, you may test the dependent segments on a transaction such as a Journal Entry
